Kathmandu: A total of 102 bodies recovered from the banks of the Trishuli and Narayani rivers have been taken to Pokhara for identification and post-mortem examinations.
Kaski Assistant Chief District Officer Chitrangad Baral said the bodies were transported to Pokhara after authorities found it difficult to manage and examine them in the districts where they were recovered, including Dhading, Gorkha, Tanahun and Nawalparasi East.
On Thursday night, 41 bodies were brought from Nawalparasi East, 23 from Tanahun, 11 from Gorkha and 27 from Dhading. The bodies have been taken to the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara for further management.
Nine bodies recovered from different locations in Tanahun were examined at Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences before being transferred to Manipal Teaching Hospital.
Government and private hospitals in Pokhara currently have a combined capacity to manage only 88 bodies.
Local authorities are preparing to conduct post-mortem examinations and issue public notices to help identify the deceased.
